What a licensed plumber is required to do
Size the line for the appliance load rather than for whatever pipe is closest. Install a shutoff and a sediment trap at the appliance. Pressure test the system. Pull a permit and get an inspection where the city requires one. None of these is optional and none of them is where you save money.
Sizing, specifically
A range, a water heater, a wall heater and an outdoor grill all pull different volumes. Run a line sized for one and add another appliance to it and both underperform. Half the gas complaints we see are sizing problems wearing an appliance problem’s clothes.
Testing
Every line we run or repair gets pressure tested. There is no partial pass. Either the system holds or it does not, and if it does not, the work is not finished.
What to do if you smell gas
Leave. Do not switch anything on or off, including lights. Call from outside. Then call a plumber. That order matters.
